If you have searched for “Bill Melugin age,” you are probably curious about the Fox News journalist behind some of the network’s most prominent reporting on the U.S.-Mexico border and, more recently, Capitol Hill. Melugin has built a national profile through field reporting, investigative journalism, and live coverage of major breaking-news stories.
As of 2026, Bill Melugin is an established Fox News correspondent who has moved from extensive border reporting into a new role covering Congress in Washington, D.C. Although his exact date of birth is not consistently published by authoritative sources, a 2023 Los Angeles Times profile identified him as 32 at the time. That places his birth year around 1990, although readers should be cautious about websites that publish an exact birthday without a reliable source.
Who Is Bill Melugin?
Bill Melugin is an American television journalist best known for his work with Fox News. He joined Fox News Channel in May 2021 after developing a strong reputation as an investigative reporter in local television news.
His career became particularly associated with coverage of immigration and the southern U.S. border. From 2021 through 2024, Melugin spent a substantial portion of his time reporting from the border, where he covered migrant crossings, Border Patrol operations, drug seizures, and other developments.
Fox News says Melugin is now based in Washington, D.C., where he serves as a congressional correspondent. He also anchors Fox News Report, a short daily news brief carried by Fox-owned television stations.
His career represents a transition from highly visible field reporting to one of the most important beats in American political journalism: Congress.
Bill Melugin Age: How Old Is He?
The question “How old is Bill Melugin?” is frequently searched online, but determining his exact age requires some caution.
A February 2023 Los Angeles Times profile described Melugin as 32 years old. Based on that information, he was born around 1990 or 1991, depending on the timing of his birthday.
However, Fox News’ official biography does not currently list a birth date. Because of that, it is better to describe his age using the available published information rather than presenting an unverified exact birthday as fact.
In 2026, Melugin is therefore in his mid-30s.
This distinction matters because many celebrity and biography websites repeat personal details from one another without identifying an original source. When researching a journalist’s age, readers should give greater weight to reputable publications, official biographies, and direct interviews.
Early Life and Education
Melugin grew up in Southern California and attended Arizona State University. He graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he studied broadcast journalism.
His path into television journalism began before he became nationally recognized. He worked in local television markets, gaining experience as a reporter and anchor before eventually moving to Los Angeles.
According to Fox News, Melugin worked at KFOX-TV in El Paso, Texas, and later at WJYZ-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. He subsequently joined KTTV-TV, the Fox-owned station in Los Angeles, as an investigative reporter.
His local reporting career helped establish the investigative skills that later became central to his national television work.
Career Before Fox News
Before joining Fox News, Melugin became known for investigative journalism in Los Angeles.
At KTTV, he worked on stories involving public officials, government accountability, crime, and other major local issues. One of the stories associated with his investigative work involved California Governor Gavin Newsom’s attendance at the French Laundry restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Melugin’s work earned significant recognition. Fox News reports that he received three local Emmy awards for investigative reporting during a four-year period at KTTV.
He also received Golden Mike Awards and regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for hard-news, breaking-news, and investigative reporting.
These awards helped establish him as more than simply a television correspondent. His background was rooted in traditional investigative reporting, document research, and on-the-ground journalism.
Joining Fox News
Melugin joined Fox News Channel in May 2021.
His national career quickly became associated with coverage of the southern border. He spent extensive periods reporting from Texas and other border areas, frequently delivering live reports from locations where migrant crossings were occurring.
His reporting style emphasized live footage, interviews, aerial video, and direct observation from the field. The work often placed him in difficult and unpredictable environments.
A 2023 Los Angeles Times profile reported that Melugin had spent 170 days on the border during 2022 and conducted approximately 1,000 live shots from the Rio Grande Valley that year.
His border reporting ultimately became one of the defining elements of his national profile.
Why Is Bill Melugin Famous?
For many viewers, the answer to “Who is Bill Melugin?” is closely connected to his immigration reporting.
He became a familiar face on Fox News through frequent live reports from the southern border. His coverage included migrant crossings, encounters with Border Patrol, conditions along the Rio Grande, and broader developments involving U.S. immigration policy.
He also reported on major breaking-news events away from the border.
Fox News notes that Melugin covered the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and reported on the drowning of Texas National Guard soldier Bishop Evans in the Rio Grande.
He also contributed to coverage of the California wildfires in January 2025.
Bill Melugin’s Move to Washington
One of the biggest developments in Melugin’s career came in November 2025.
Fox News announced that Melugin had been promoted to congressional correspondent and relocated to Washington, D.C. His new assignment involves covering Congress, including legislative developments, political disputes, and decisions made on Capitol Hill.
The move represents a significant expansion of his journalism career.
Rather than focusing primarily on one geographic story such as the southern border, Melugin’s congressional role places him at the center of national political reporting.
His experience covering immigration could also prove particularly relevant because border security and immigration policy remain major subjects of congressional debate.
Awards and Professional Recognition
Melugin has received multiple journalism awards throughout his career.
According to Fox News, he is a two-time recipient of the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California’s Golden Mike Award for Best Investigative Journalism.
He has also received three local Emmy awards for investigative reporting and three regional Edward R. Murrow awards for hard-news and breaking-news reporting.
