Her long career makes people curious about her background and professional journey. However, her age is only the starting point. Her story also includes legal training, teaching, international reporting, and several major career changes. This article explains her birthday and the main events that shaped her working life.

What Is the Age of Greta Van Susteren in 2026?

The age of Greta Van Susteren is 72 after her birthday on June 11, 2026. During the first part of the year, she was still 71. Both numbers can therefore appear in articles written during 2026. The publication date explains which answer applies. A profile published in March might correctly describe her as 71. An article updated in October should describe her as 72. This small difference can confuse readers comparing several biographies. The clearest approach is to include her full birthday and a reference date. As of October 24, 2026, the correct answer is 72 years old.

When Was Greta Van Susteren Born?

Her birthday is June 11, 1954. Knowing this date makes the age of Greta Van Susteren easy to check. Unlike a current age, a birth date does not change each year. It provides a lasting reference for readers and publishers. She turned 70 in June 2024, 71 in June 2025, and 72 in June 2026. Her next birthday will be June 11, 2027, when she turns 73. These milestones also help readers place her career events in order. Rather than trusting an undated age claim, compare the stated year with her birthday. That simple habit helps prevent mistakes in personal profiles.

Her Early Life in Appleton, Wisconsin

Greta Van Susteren was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. Her early background belongs in any useful biography, even though television made her nationally known. Many viewers connect her with Washington interviews and major American news networks. However, her life began far from those television studios. Her Wisconsin roots also connect with her later studies at the University of Wisconsin. When exploring the age of Greta Van Susteren, it helps to follow this broader timeline. Childhood, university, legal practice, and broadcasting were separate stages. Her public career did not begin with a television hosting role. It developed after years of education and professional preparation.

How Her Age Is Calculated

Calculating the age of Greta Van Susteren takes two simple steps. First, subtract her birth year from the year being checked. For 2026, subtracting 1954 gives 72. Next, check whether June 11 has passed. Before that date, subtract one from the result. After that date, the result stays the same. For example, she was 71 on February 1, 2026. She was 72 on August 1, 2026. This method is also useful for checking her age during earlier career events. It avoids depending on old biographies that may still display a previous age. Always check the month and day before finalizing the answer.

Her University Education and Law Degrees

Before becoming a familiar television figure, Van Susteren completed years of higher education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin. She later earned her law degree at Georgetown in 1979. A Master of Laws followed in 1982. She turned 25 during 1979 and 28 during 1982. Those figures describe her age during each calendar year. They do not establish her exact age on graduation day. Her education adds useful context to discussions about the age of Greta Van Susteren. It shows how much preparation came before her best-known television work. Her early professional foundation was in law.

Her Work as a Lawyer and Teacher

Van Susteren worked as a criminal defense and civil trial attorney before her journalism career. She also taught law at Georgetown. These roles required skills that later became useful on television. Lawyers study documents, examine claims, question witnesses, and explain legal arguments. Teachers must make difficult subjects easier to understand. Those tasks have clear links with legal news coverage. For example, a viewer may hear about a court motion without understanding its purpose. A legal analyst can explain what it means and why it matters. Her background helps explain her move into broadcasting. It also gives readers a fuller picture of her professional experience.

How She Became Known Through CNN

Many people researching the age of Greta Van Susteren first remember seeing her on CNN. She worked there as a legal analyst and became known for explaining major cases. Her coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder trial helped raise her national profile. She also co-hosted Burden of Proof and hosted The Point. These programs connected her legal knowledge with a broad television audience. Court coverage requires care because an accusation and a proven fact are different things. Viewers also need help understanding evidence, court rules, and legal decisions. Her legal background offered a foundation for discussing those subjects during fast-moving news coverage.

Her Years Hosting On the Record at Fox News

The age of Greta Van Susteren helps place her long Fox News chapter in context. She joined the network in 2002 and hosted On the Record. Her time there lasted more than 14 years and ended in 2016. She turned 48 during 2002 and 62 during 2016. That period explains why many viewers still strongly connect her name with Fox News. A long-running program can become a familiar part of an audience’s daily routine. However, her career continued after that role ended. A complete biography should cover her earlier legal work and later television positions. One program represents only part of her working life.

Her Move to MSNBC in 2017

Van Susteren started another broadcasting chapter at MSNBC in January 2017. Her program, For the Record with Greta, launched on January 9. She was 62 at the time. The program lasted roughly six months, making this a shorter career stop. It still belongs in an accurate account of her television history. Similar program names can make the timeline confusing. Her Fox News show was called On the Record. Her MSNBC show was called For the Record with Greta. Her later Newsmax program uses another related title. Keeping the names and networks clear helps readers understand which period a biography describes.

Her Reporting Beyond Cable News Studios

A discussion about the age of Greta Van Susteren should also acknowledge her broader reporting work. Her career has included Gray Television’s Full Court Press and Voice of America’s Plugged In. She has also reported on the Rohingya crisis and worked on the documentary Displaced. These projects show a career extending beyond daily studio interviews. Television journalism can include field reports, documentaries, political conversations, and breaking news. Each format gives audiences a different view of events. A documentary, for example, can spend more time explaining a situation than a brief news segment. These roles add depth to her professional biography.

Her Newsmax Career and Work in 2026

Readers asking about the age of Greta Van Susteren often also want to know where she works. Her Newsmax program, The Record with Greta Van Susteren, began in 2022. She turned 68 that year. In April 2025, Newsmax announced a multiyear agreement extending her hosting role. The network also lists episodes from October 2026. Those recent program records support her continued television work as of this article’s date. Her current career should be described through dated evidence, just like her age. A recent episode listing provides more useful information than assumptions based on how long someone has worked in broadcasting.

Why Some Websites Show a Different Age

The age of Greta Van Susteren may differ across websites because pages are updated at different times. Some biographies keep an age written several years earlier. Others update the number automatically but leave career details unchanged. An older figure is not always evidence that the original article was wrong. It may have been accurate on its publication date. The problem begins when readers treat that old figure as current. Checking the birth date resolves this issue quickly. Publishers should also review the surrounding biography. Updating an age while leaving an old employer listed as current can still give readers an inaccurate overall picture.
